Creating Furniture Instead of Waste
Presented by Mater
Mater means ‘mother’ in Latin. The name is the daily reminder of our small contribution to preventing the challenges ‘mother earth’ faces. Design influences how we as humans live our lives; it shapes values, culture and society. Unfortunately, we are increasingly aware that the choices made during design processes often have environmental consequences. However, as a manufacturer, we have the opportunity to rethink dubious practices and create ethical and sustainable design that minimises adverse social and environmental impacts.

Circular Economy Building is Deficient: Healthy Futurescapes Require Robust Regenerative Design Based on Cradle to Cradle® Principles by 540 world
Presented by Cradle to Cradle® Principles. 540 WORLD
Circular Economy Building is Deficient: Healthy Futurescapes Require Robust Regenerative Design Based on Cradle to Cradle® Principles. 540 WORLD presents two world-first case studies, an infrastructure Thames Estuary world-first with the Environment Agency and a London retrofit, showcasing Cradle to Cradle Certified® materials and solutions for regenerative design in interiors.
While C02 and more recently circularity have both been on the world stage as real concerns in the built environment, there are five key performance categories that need equal and urgent attention. 540 WORLD discuss how to imbed materials with verified safe ingredients, circularity/re-use and de-construction solutions, healthy air and energy, clean water and soil and social fairness. This framework should be built into the design supply chain at pace to support the significant sustainability changes required for this decade and for the future.
